The seven-step GI chain

  1. Application filed

A producer body files with the GI Registry under the Geographical Indications of Goods Act, 1999.

  2. Origin inspection

Inspectors verify geographical origin, traditional method, and the producer roster for that region.

  3. GI tag issued

A unique tag number is granted (e.g. GI #37 for Ratnagiri Hapus). Only registered producers in the zone may use it.

  4. PostMart verification

Sellers must appear on the GI Registry's authorised producer list; we cross-reference before listing.

  5. QR per batch

Every shipment carries a QR linking to its GI certificate number and batch records.

  6. India Post dispatch

The parcel ships on Speed Post with the QR affixed; the buyer scans it on arrival.

  7. Customer verifies

Scanning shows the GI number, producer name and batch trail. Any mismatch triggers a refund and audit.
